In this blog post I’m trying to lay out the skeleton of my aesthetic and explain to you, what abstract surrealism is, to me. It’s not an actual art movement, I just simply made it up, because I think it’s the best way to describe my work.

As many of you know by now, I spent the last two years traveling full time around Spain and Portugal in my van, while trying to figure out a new career path while also trying to find a new future home base. I remember very distinctly back in 2021 the feeling of needing a change.

It is fall 2023. It has been a hard three years for everyone. Covid, war, isolation, withdrawal, vulnerability, not knowing the future, I suppose everybody experienced it differently, but for most people it has been quite challenging. And a lot of life altering changes have been made in our private lives. Mine included.

How do you afford it? Is living out of a van tiring? How do you stay connected with friends and family? Do you miss having a stable home? How do you not go crazy constantly moving around? What will you do once you get older?

Painting for me is a way to express what I never could express with words. It’s a natural form of expression. What comes out on the canvas is often drawn from the unconscious part of the brain, responsible for raw emotion.
